Historical preservation is a hot button issue and has been for a few years. Many can agree on the general importance of preserving history, but deciding what to preserve and what to remove has been a controversial conversation for decades and recently has seen a spike in volatility due to added political pressures. Just recently we have seen military bases renamed to remove the mention of confederate generals, only for the renaming to be revoked.
