Netflix, Studio Trigger, and CD Projekt Red have officially confirmed a sequel to the acclaimed anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, revealing a fall 2026 release window. The announcement came during a panel at Anime Expo 2025, where key art and initial details were unveiled, according to Bleeding Cool. The panel featured original director Hiroyuki Imaishi, writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor, and voice actors Emi Lo and Zach Aguilar.
"Netflix and CD Projekt Red have announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, set for a Fall 2026 release."
Polygon reported that the sequel will be directed by Kai Ikarashi and will introduce a fresh story with a new cast of characters, moving beyond the original's protagonists. The first series, which aired in 2022, was a massive hit, winning Anime of the Year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and driving a surge in sales for Cyberpunk 2077.
Before the official announcement, CD Projekt Red teased the project with a cryptic social media post showing a damaged USB drive labeled "Edgerunners SZN 2," promising a bigger reveal the following week. That reveal has now arrived, confirming the sequel's development and continuing the dark, dystopian themes that made the original so praised.
"The original series, produced by Studio Trigger and released on Netflix in 2022, was praised for its emotional storytelling and stunning animation."
With a fall 2026 release target, fans will have to wait over a year for the new season, but the early confirmation and creative team details suggest CD Projekt Red and Netflix are invested in building on the success of Edgerunners. The original series not only won industry awards but also helped rehabilitate the Cyberpunk 2077 brand, making this sequel a highly anticipated follow-up.
