Feng Xiaogang's latest film, the cat-and-mouse drama 'I Know Who You Are', is set for a North American release in early July, just days after its mainland China debut. China Lion Film Distribution has acquired the rights for the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, covering all media formats, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which opened in China on June 19, earned a $9 million first weekend at the box office, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. It stars Lei Jiayin and Hu Ge in a suspense-driven narrative adapted from Zhang Ce's 1992 novella 'No Regrets Tracking'.
"The film blends suspense and drama, aiming to captivate Western thriller audiences with its cat-and-mouse narrative."
China Lion's swift international rollout, coming days after the Chinese premiere, underscores the growing appetite for Chinese thrillers abroad. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the acquisition covers all media rights, suggesting a wide release strategy across theaters and digital platforms.
With Feng Xiaogang's established reputation and a strong opening weekend in China, 'I Know Who You Are' could find a receptive audience among Western viewers looking for tightly plotted, character-driven thrillers. The early July release positions it as a summer counterprogramming option in North American and Oceanic markets.
