Celo has launched the x402 facilitator, a tool that allows artificial intelligence agents to send and receive stablecoin payments in a single HTTP request. The move builds on Celo's long-standing focus on low-cost, real-world transactions by opening its network to autonomous software agents.

AI Agents Can Now Make Stablecoin Payments Instantly on Celo's New x402 Facilitator

According to BitRss, Celo's x402 facilitator is designed to "enable AI agents to transact using stablecoins, aligning with its focus on low-cost, real-world payments." The facilitator processes payments per request, settling on-chain in under a second, making it practical for high-frequency, machine-driven microtransactions.

"x402/celo, stablecoin payments in one HTTP response"

The official x402.celo.org site describes the facilitator as "unlocking agentic stablecoin payments per request with sub-second settlement on one of the fastest-growing agentic ecosystems in all of crypto." This technical simplicity means developers can integrate stablecoin payments into AI workflows as easily as calling an API.

Celo's infrastructure, originally built for mobile-first payments in emerging markets, now positions itself as a backbone for the emerging "agentic economy," where bots and AI systems increasingly need to pay for compute, data, or services without human intervention. The x402 launch is the latest step in adapting blockchain payments for automated, real-time use cases.
