Billie Eilish will make her acting debut in a new film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s novel "The Bell Jar," directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sarah Polley, according to The Playlist and ELLE. Carey Mulligan has also joined the cast.
The project was first reported in March, with Eilish attached to star. The Playlist now reports that Mulligan is onboard and that Connor Storrie is rumored to be in talks for a role. Polley, who won an Oscar for "Women Talking," is adapting Plath’s classic 1963 novel about a young woman’s descent into mental illness.
The Playlist noted that Eilish "has made her stamp on pulp culture with her albums, concert tours, and stunning music videos." This role marks a major step into narrative film for the Grammy-winning musician, who previously appeared in documentary form.
ELLE reported that few additional details about the project have been released, including a timeline or production start date. Fans of Plath’s work and Eilish’s music are eagerly awaiting further announcements.
