George Mason UniversityCampus Notice: Help reduce energy demandgmu.eduCampus Notice: Help reduce energy demand lclarkg Thu, 07/02/2026 - 10:28 Body George Mason Patriots, Due to extreme temperatures and a high heat index across our region, the local energy grid is experiencing significant stress. As a result, George Mason University is asking all Patriots to help reduce energy demand and support grid reliability this weekend (July 2–5). With reduced campus occupancy during the holiday weekend, we have a valuable opportunity to decrease our energy consumption and be good community partners, with a "Lights Out! Power Down!" effort. We encourage everyone to power down before leaving campus and unplug all unused and nonessential electronics, devices, and equipment. How You Can Help Before leaving for the day or holiday weekend, please turn off and unplug the following whenever they are not needed: Office, common area, and hallway lights Personal computers, monitors, and accessories Shared electronics, including televisions, projectors, copiers, and printers Non-essential appliances, such as coffee makers and washers/dryers Laboratory and research equipment that can be safely powered down Chargers, docking stations, and other devices that continue to draw power when not in use Every action, no matter how small, contributes to reducing demand on the electrical grid, supporting our neighbors, and advancing George Mason's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. Thank you for doing your part and helping George Mason be a responsible community partner during this period of high energy demand. Go Patriots!
