Brussels Airlines is set to get a new chief executive, with Lorenza Maggio taking over from Dorothea von Boxberg. Maggio, an Italian executive, will move from sister company ITA Airways to lead the Belgian carrier, according to luchtvaartnieuws.nl.
Von Boxberg, who has led the Lufthansa Group subsidiary since April 2023, is leaving the company of her own accord. Lufthansa reported that her departure is scheduled for August 31, 2026, and that the decision to appoint Maggio is subject to approval by the Board of Directors of SN Airholding.
"Der Vorstand der Deutschen Lufthansa AG hat Lorenza Maggio zur neuen CEO von Brussels Airlines berufen."
The airline group also announced that Maggio will take on an additional role beyond running the Belgian carrier. According to Lufthansa, she will serve as "Bevollmächtigten des Vorstands bei der Europäischen Kommission," meaning she will act as the authorized representative of the executive board to the European Commission.
Maggio currently works at ITA Airways, another Lufthansa Group affiliate. The timing of her transition from Rome to Brussels has yet to be finalized, Lufthansa stated. The move continues a pattern of leadership shifts within the group's network of European airlines.
