Bruno Guimaraes has told Newcastle United he wishes to leave the club and join Arsenal, according to sources cited by The Athletic. The Premier League champions have intensified their pursuit of the 28-year-old midfielder. Arsenal have indicated willingness to pay up to £60 million for Guimaraes. The club previously had a verbal offer below that amount rejected in June, though no formal club-to-club contact has taken place since. Newcastle has maintained its position that Guimaraes is not for sale. The Brazilian has two years remaining on a five-year contract extension signed in October 2023, which briefly carried a £100 million release clause before it expired in June 2024. Newcastle has already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69.3 million this summer, while Sandro Tonali is joining Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth up to £100 million. Guimaraes started every match for Brazil at this summer's World Cup, recording four assists before the team's elimination by Norway in the round of 16. Since joining from Lyon in January 2022, Guimaraes has made 153 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring 30 goals and adding 26 assists. He also helped the club win the 2025 Carabao Cup. "This is my second home," said Guimaraes following that victory. "We are making history. Some day, when I leave this club, I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Alan Shearer." Newcastle is monitoring potential midfield replacements, including Monaco's Lamine Camara and Auxerre's Kevin Danois, should any departures occur this summer.
