Death at Mojave Desert water facility under investigation after body discovered in intake pond

Authorities are investigating after an unidentified man's body was recovered Wednesday from the intake area of the Iron Mountain Pump Plant in Earp, California, near the Colorado River and the California-Arizona border. KTLA reported that deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Colorado River Station and the Needles Police Department responded to the facility.
"The incident remains under investigation."
The Los Angeles Times added that the body was found floating in the intake pond at the plant, located in the Mojave Desert. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California confirmed that the man was not an employee at the facility, according to the Times.
KTLA noted that the plant is situated at 6001 [...] along the Colorado River. The circumstances surrounding the man's presence at the remote pumping station are unclear, and officials have not released any information about possible causes of death.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is leading the inquiry, with no further details provided as of the latest reports. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
