Bethesda Game Studios has reassured fans that Starfield 'remains an important part of our future,' detailing plans for Year 3 content that stretch into 2027, according to multiple outlets. The announcement came alongside confirmation that the 2023 space RPG has now been played by more than 17 million people, a figure that includes Game Pass players rather than only sales, as GameSpot noted.
"Starfield remains an important part of our future."
The studio outlined its roadmap for Year 3, which will include new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates. GamesRadar+ reported that Bethesda is also preparing 'for the launch of new Starborn,' a teaser for a content drop arriving in 2027. Kotaku added that the commitment comes as part of a broader Bethesda roadmap that also includes remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
"new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates"
The announcement arrives at a time of significant upheaval at Microsoft's gaming division, which recently laid off 1,600 staff. Insider-Gaming reported that Todd Howard's statement was intended to counter speculation that Bethesda might abandon Starfield following those cuts. By publicly reaffirming support, the studio aims to signal that the game still has a long runway ahead.
While Bethesda confirmed that more stories and gameplay updates are on the way, Gameloop.gg cautioned players against assuming that every detail of the DLC is settled, noting that much of what is known remains broad. Nonetheless, the confirmation of a 2027 release for the Starborn content gives the Starfield community a concrete horizon to look toward as the game enters its third year.
