Netflix has greenlit a dark half-hour comedy series titled "Toxic Moms," with Ashley Tisdale attached to star and executive produce, according to Deadline. The project stems from Tisdale's unexpected viral association with the phrase "toxic moms" on Google, which she now turns into a scripted series. Sabrina Jalees is writing the series, and Ali Wong is executive producing, as both Deadline and TVLine reported.
"A sleep-deprived new mom drawn into a clique of cool, wealthy mothers."
The series follows that premise, exploring the pressures and absurdities of modern parenting through a comedic lens. TVLine added that the show is inspired by Tisdale's own experiences with a "toxic mom group" drama, bringing a personal touch to the on-screen conflict.
"Her real-life experiences with a 'toxic mom group' drama."
Tisdale, best known for her roles in "High School Musical" and "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," is expected to play the lead in the series. The development deal marks a significant step into television production for the actress, who previously executive produced the Freeform series "Young & Hungry." Netflix has not yet announced a release window for the series, which is still in early development.
