Apple and Broadcom Extend Chip Supply Deal to 2031
Apple signs $30 bn Broadcom deal to expand US chip production
From the article
Apple on Wednesday announced a new multiyear agreement with Broadcom worth more than $30 billion to design and manufacture custom silicon components and advanced wireless technologies in the United States, deepening its push to localise chip production and strengthen the country's semiconductor supply chain. The agreement, Apple's largest commitment under its American Manufacturing Program (AMP), is expected to result in the production of more than 15 billion US-made chips while supporting hundreds of manufacturing jobs. As part of the deal, Broadcom will invest $1.5 billion to expand and modernise its manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado, where it will produce advanced radio frequency components, including FBAR filters, along with wireless connectivity technologies used across Apple's product portfolio. The announcement forms part of Apple's broader pledge to invest $600 billion in the US economy over four years, spanning manufacturing, research and development, infrastructure and workforce development."Apple and Broadcom have a long history together, and this new phase of our partnership further accelerates our commitment to American manufacturing and innovation," Apple CEO Tim Cook said. He added that the components manufactured in Fort Collins are critical to delivering the performance and connectivity expected from Apple devices and credited the US administration for supporting domestic manufacturing initiatives.Hock Tan, president and CEO of Broadcom, said the company was proud to continue its decades-long partnership with Apple and expand its manufacturing footprint in Colorado.Broadcom joined Apple's American Manufacturing Program last year, an initiative launched to accelerate domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on overseas production. The latest commitment significantly expands that partnership and is expected to strengthen Apple's US-based semiconductor ecosystem. The chips to be produced under the agreement include advanced radio frequency components that play a key role in enabling wireless communication across Apple devices. By increasing domestic production of these critical components, Apple is seeking to build a more resilient supply chain while supporting the broader US effort to expand semiconductor manufacturing. The announcement comes as major technology companies continue to increase investments in domestic chip production amid geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and government incentives aimed at boosting semiconductor manufacturing within the United States. Apple has increasingly positioned its manufacturing strategy around expanding local production while maintaining partnerships with key suppliers across the globe.
