The third and prolonged heatwave of this year has tightened its grip around much of England and Wales. Warm and sunny weather will continue through the south, which will extend towards the north through the day. Read on to be prepared of the adverse weather. The UK Met Office is forecasting a prolonged spell of hot and dry weather across much of England and Wales. With temperatures expected to peak around 35-36 °C, it will be the third heatwave of this summer for many of us and is likely to be the longest-lasting so far. High pressure and weak pressure gradients will dominate the UK's weather this week, bringing long spells of sunshine and generally light winds. The brightest and warmest conditions are expected across much of England and Wales, where settled weather is likely to persist towards next week. Daytime temperatures are widely around 31-32 °C across the south and southeast England, while up to 22-24 °C can be expected through Scotland and northern England. Temperatures will remain around mid-twenties during the night with clear skies across the south and high-teens in the north. With clear skies, scorching sunshine can be expected across England, Wales and northeast Scotland. With exceptionally high temperatures and strong sunshine expected, it's important to take extra care if you're spending time outdoors. Try to stay in the shade during the hottest part of the day, usually between 11 am and 3 pm, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and wear lightweight clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses. Apply a high-factor sunscreen regularly, even if you're only outside for a short time, as UV levels will be very high.
