AGRICULTURE: EIB strengthens financing for Romanian farmers through InvestEU Programme

Romanian farmers will gain better access to financing through a €25 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to Agricover Credit IFN SA, backed by the InvestEU Guarantee. The agreement has strong economic and social relevance for Romania, where agriculture employs over 20% of the labour force the highest share in the European Union and contributes around 4% of GDP. The loan will improve financial inclusion and support generational renewal in farming by helping younger farmers enter the sector, modernise existing operations, and take over from older farmers as they retire. This will enable investments in innovation and productivity, benefiting local communities and the environment. In addition to the financing, Agricover will receive advisory support under the InvestEU Advisory Hub. This includes Social Inclusive Finance Technical Assistance (SIFTA) linked to the renewal of the Code of Good Conduct for Microcredit Provision, as well as pipeline-building services aimed at expanding lending to small farmers.
