Perseverance rover detects organic carbon on Martian rock surface in Jezero Crater
By
Jacek Krywko
Summary
NASA's Perseverance rover has detected complex macromolecular carbon on the surface of a rock at Jezero Crater on Mars — the shallowest detection of organic matter on the planet to date. While biology could explain the find, other non-biological processes may also be responsible. The discovery was made at an outcrop near the ancient river channel Neretva Vallis.
