Gallup poll: 70% of Americans oppose data centers in their communities
By
Mr Bagel
A new Gallup survey reveals that over 70% of Americans oppose data center construction in their communities, with The Verge reporting that only 7% are strongly in favor. Hacker News noted the opposition is bipartisan but especially intense among Democrats, and that more Americans would prefer living near a nuclear power plant than a data center. The Verge added that the survey, conducted among over 3,000 American adults in March and April 2026, found water and electricity usage were the top concerns driving opposition.
