Today's book news is split between nostalgia and novelty. A beloved fantasy series gets a posthumous final installment, while a YouTube star's novel collaboration debuts high on the charts. The rest of the day is quieter, with a few award announcements and a memoir on the horizon.
Two big announcements bookend the day: one for a series that's been dormant for 15 years, and one for a collaboration that's already a commercial hit.
Redwall is coming back. The late Brian Jacques' series will get a new final book, 'Orphans of Mossflower,' in 2027. It's the first entry in 15 years, and Polygon confirms it's a genuine continuation, not a reissue.
MrBeast and James Patterson's mystery thriller 'The Most Dangerous Games' hit No. 3 on the NYT bestseller list. Two outlets are covering the news, and film rights are already being discussed.
A few smaller but notable items round out the day, from a local book festival to a prize for a Cyprus-based writer.
The San Jose Book Festival 2026 has its schedule out. Karen Joy Fowler is the keynote, and there are swordfighting demos. A solid local event for Bay Area readers.
The Vancouver Book Award finalists are announced. The $3,000 prize, funded by the city, recognizes books that capture Vancouver's character. A quiet but meaningful regional prize.
Cyprus-based writer Erini Loucaides won the 2026 Minds Shine Bright Places Writing Prize for a short story about love and migration. A small international win worth noting.

REVIEW: One Last Prayer by Mosha Winterwww.grimdarkmagazine.com
