North Yorkshire project launched to revive endangered black poplar trees

Summary

A conservation project called Forgotten Flora has launched in North Yorkshire to help save the endangered black poplar tree, one of the UK's rarest native trees. With only about 7,000 trees remaining in the UK and Ireland—and just 600 of those being female—natural seed reproduction is severely limited. The Howardian Hills Partnership and North York Moors National Park are propagating saplings from the few surviving trees in the county, nurturing them in Terrington, near Malton, to increase the population.
