Summary
This article examines how different configurations of AI in education may reshape teachers' opportunities to experience teaching as meaningful work. Using a scenario methodology, it develops three plausible scenarios grounded in existing educational AI: Labor-Replacing Classrooms (AI tutors displace core instructional tasks, teachers redeployed into surveillance), AI-Managed Teaching (teachers remain central but guided/evaluated through dashboards and performance indicators), and Human–AI Teaming (collaborative partnership between teachers and AI). The article explores how each scenario impacts teachers' sense of purpose, autonomy, and professional meaning.
