Summary
Municipal councils in Portugal have canceled over 10,000 local lodging (Alojamento Local) registrations as part of a cleanup process targeting inactive licenses. Following Lisbon, the cities of Porto, Lagoa, and Lagos have also moved forward with cancellation orders for AL establishments that are not in operation. Since March 2025, owners of this type of tourist accommodation are required to present civil liability insurance covering property and non-property damages.
