Summary
Laurel Canyon Pictures, a new production and financing company founded by producer Dan Fried, has officially launched. Its first project is a documentary about Jean-Michel Basquiat, which will premiere at Tribeca Film Festival. This is the first documentary about Basquiat made with full participation and approval of his family, told primarily through the eyes of his sisters, Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux. The film explores Basquiat's roots as a first-generation Puerto Rican and Haitian painter raised in Brooklyn, tracing his journey from New York's downtown punk scene to international art world fame. Fried serves as an executive producer on the film, which was co-financed by Laurel Canyon Pictures.
