Summary
A large study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that recent Covid vaccination is associated with broad cardioprotective effects, including reduced risk of heart attacks, stroke, hospitalization, and death. The study followed over 1 million veterans who received flu vaccinations at VA health care facilities in 2024, with about one-third also receiving a Covid vaccine. Researchers found a nearly 24% reduction in all-cause cardiac events among those vaccinated against Covid, which surprised researchers given that SARS-CoV-2 infection is known to increase the risk of adverse cardiac events.
